Strength of a nation - L'Amistad
A nation showed its strength, by freeing common folk. Removing both their chains and their slavers yolk. At risk of civil war, three courts gave them the finding. North and South split by beliefs, to both of them so binding. Under pressure from politics and a Queen from foreign shore. They were made to choose 'twix policy and the law. It's good to know that men of honour, sat in judgement true. And would not bend from a law, that told them what to do. John Adams stood before bench, speaking out for slaves. Humans, who in servitude must, live out their days. He spoke of life and liberty, of the constitutions fine address. Of a mans right to bear arms and fight those who'd suppress. He spoke of freedom and a home, of both they'd been deprived. And that the ruling of two courts, had come to be denied. The balance of the high court, was in favour of the south. Where the righteousness of slavery, poured out from the mouth. Yet, unanimously they sat abreast and said in unity... You are not slaves... nor cattle, we say you can go free!
