My Prime Minister (Dramatic Monologue) This piece was inspired by Press releases that Mr Tony Blair the Prime Minister of the UK was about to sign away our soveriegnty without a public referendum. There is the face of my Prime Minister gloating so, his slick smile, now sinister, plastered 'cross the broadest sheets of paper, there people question his latest caper... I ask of thee what counts more, his good name or the stature of this country? what game, is it that he plays so wilfully now? the depth of passion in his earnest brow, betrays the lack of confidence inside; his shadow darkens there before us all. For thee, his people, he would not yet call upon to decide their own countries fate... Nay he would alone and without debate; make signature to constitution sealed, in lands outside our isle his hand does wield, all soveriegnty of state once held great; and where did he get the power to act? who gave him nourishment to form this pact? Look now amongst thyselves check thine hands, for evidence of ink that marked the sands; which placed a vote so stoutly there, a cross, and signed away a state then count the loss! dost thine heart pound or miss a beat my friend; as thee realise fact and it is nick'd? Whose fault this dilemna as he does evict all power from the Crown of England there; and the sorrow found can the people bear? Or perchance thou already facts do know, a member of the twenty percent or so, who art schooled in the reasoning and so, perhaps consider thyself art too low; to give real voice one way or the other? yet you can still stand and call me brother? where for art thou in this most darkest game; standing in shadows whilst he gains fame? Who amongst thee will explain in simple terms what benefit this act to us will earn? For certain once its done thee will all find there is no compensation for the blind Should fault be found after the act my friend who wouldst thou entreat, where thy complaint send? Better that thee stand proud and say 'what this' than sleep forever in thine ignorant bliss! Remember now that Canute could not hold the tides once set in motion and be bold do not be scared to question nor stand proud give voice to thy concern and make it loud! |
