Winter Memories

A massive truck rumbling past,
expelling ashes on the ice.
Jack Frost, with his chilling blast,
knocking on my window.
The smell of burning wood in the air
as smoke billows into the sky
out of chimneys perched high above;
these remind me of winters gone by.
Children sledding down snow-covered hills,
having the time of their lives;
screaming and laughing, oh, so loud
as into snowdrifts they dive.
I watch them and I reminisce
of winters gone away.
And I also have to wonder
of the memories yet to be made.

Spring

Birds returning are a welcome sight,
chirping merrily with all their might.
Green buds burst forth on trees thought dead;
"It's Spring! It's Spring!" I know they said.
Flowers, missed but not forgotten, suddenly appear.
Yes, these are signs that Spring is here.
Weather reports spread the happy news;
"Hello Spring, goodbye Winter blues."
The rain will fall to bring back life.
Once more Jack Frost has lost the fight.
Smiles are wider, steps are lighter,
clouds disappear and the sun shines brighter.
Spring is my favorite time of year,
it's a new beginning, a time for cheer.

Best Friends Forever

When first I saw her, I cried and cried,
I hated my parents for what they had done,
it was the end of good times, end of my fun.
She was taking over, taking my place;
I spent hours staring at her face,
wishing she'd leave and never come back.
The years went by, as years will do;
I changed my mind, she's here to stay,
my love grows stronger day by day.
Our friendship will endure the miles
that life may place between us;
remembering tears, remembering smiles.
She's my pal, she's my friend;
best friends we will always be.
Our friendship will never end,
she and I are sisters, you see.

Soul Mates

To love and lose is the next worst thing
to never to have loved at all.
Someone said that once upon a time,
I have the words written on my wall.
The one you keep searching for
is the one you seek to find;
the one with that heart of gold,
the one who never leaves your mind.
He's out there just around the bend,
waiting for you to come his way.
We've loved, we've lost, we try again;
and love will be ours again someday.
One is truly happy when deep down in your soul
you know you've found that special one;
the one with whom you will grow old.
If your heart smiles, you know that you have won.

Fleeting Love

What happened to the love we felt
all those years ago.
It seems a lifetime now
when love was still brand new.
There's nothing left,
nothing left inside.
It's gone, it's gone away;
a part of me has died
and I can't get it back
no matter how hard I've tried.
Sometimes I don't want to,
I just want to get on with my life,
I want to be happy again,
to smile and laugh again.
We're getting older;
life is too short to spend it like this,
let's leave the rain and clouds behind
and go and find the sun.
