Semisweet I was semisweet When we clung together Intertwined as a vine to wine. I tasted other woman Before your sweetness- Of saltwater, of fish Of licorice, but yours Is orange citrus. One did pass as pie, It took time to spit bitterness. I have a past, clinging in closets A shadow of clothes I wish not wear It fits me dark, rich and ruin- And soon, you will leave me to To that road I cannot bear. Cover me in secret With your skin of nectar Place my head on the pillows Of your silk breast And I will rest. Will rest. Should you renounce, love me but once, Two more times would be asking much And lie to me telling me your true- I cannot stop her for this is such Love and me as copper and steel. Now take the run as while I sleep The night will compel and conceal A half, the half pressed to the light. |
